The World According to Gorp

Saturday, though temps rose above 90, we hiked along the Snoqualmie River on the Middle Fork Trail. We arrived early to beat as much heat as we could and to beat the crowds. We ran into only one guy and his dogs on the way out. On the way back, however, there were plenty of people headed out.

We chose this hike in large part because very little of it is in direct sun. the heat (and a fair amount of humidity), however, had the upper hand. Details and pictures on my other blog, bodanzarama. We'll hike this trail again because it is really beautiful but we'll wait a month or so for temps to cool down.
As part of our lunch I brought gorp, also known as trail mix. Gorp has countless variations but usually includes nuts, dried fruit, raisins, and chocolate chips. I grabbed a scoop or two of mixed nuts, dried cranberries, and semi-sweet chocolate chips form the bulk section at the grocery store. At home I added raisins and un-frosted mini-wheats. Gave it all a toss and I had gorp. And it was a great treat for the hike. Simple carbs that broke down fast to get us back to the car. Some cheese and cornbread and fruit rounded out the meal.
